Today started like any other; twin boy bounded in the room at 6.04 gleefully excited to be awake and not worried about who he woke up in his wake. BB yawned next to me and chanted “hullo” to her big dopey brother and then cheerfully latched back on. He who helped create them snoozed loudly beside and twin girl bellowed from the bathroom that the loo roll was gone and she had done a poo….
We spent the weekend on a “mini-break”. For anyone reading this who doesn’t have children let me quickly rip out the images of a luxury spa hotel set amid rolling hills of green, then let me introduce the picture of caravan after caravan set amongst flumes, playparks and arcades.
It was on this break that I embarked upon a voyage of self discovery.
Sometimes I feel like the job of parenting was a little missold to me.
All the parenting books I read spoke of the pleasure of holding your baby to your busom, of the overwhelming love that would consume you once little Fred or Freya was placed in your arms.
The kids excitement was almost ridiculous, they fidgetted with suspense, whooped with daftness and continued to praise me for being the best mum in the world.
What were we doing?
