I’m not going to lie to you.
I don’t get out much…..
Which means when I do, I tend to get a little over excited and on rare occasion, make a bit of a tit of myself. (Sorry mum)
Luckily, at this years final of the Mad Blog Awards 2014, I was remarkably composed and unlike previous years, handled myself with complete dignity…
Strike that – lets start again….
I may have got a little over zealous with my celebrations of reaching the top five parenting blogs in the category of Best Writer and Most Entertaining. This may have led to my leaping around old friends who I have met along my blogging years, sharing hugs, whooping with excitement, and showing off my moves on the dance floor.
There is also a nasty rumour that I may have wrapped my body around Dr Ranj, of Cbeebies fame. But if I did, then he started it….
And later…..
But to quote the Four Seasons, oh what a night. The Mad’s was amazing this year, some outstanding winners, incredible finalists and humbling stories. Once again, I was humbled and delighted to come home with a winners trophy for Most Entertaining Blogger.
Although, once again, my speech may not have reflected it at the time…..
In fact, if anyone can remember my speech, please feel free to let me know how it went….
But what I meant to say was…..
The blog has evolved over the years from being a place to giggle and share parenting nightmares, to a place where I have looked for an outlet, at times to unburden my soul. Life can be funny, and lord knows, I look hard for the laughter in everything, but at times, when your kids face battles far greater than I ever have, the chuckle can be hard to reach.
To win Most Entertaining, tells me that I can still make some of you laugh, whether that be with me or at me, to create a laugh is something amazing.
I hope that never changes, the ability to break out a smile, to laugh when it has all gone to shit, is all that keeps us going at times.
My best friends recently sent me a present of an inscription that reads…
You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf.
This is my new mantra in life, and whilst I am learning to surf, I am sure I will have some amusing tales along the way.
To friends, family, and readers who voted for me, thank you so much, to be recongnised for doing something I love is an incredible feeling. Thanks to House of Fraser for dressing me in style in my beautiful little black dress.
And to those present on the night, I apologise if I dragged you to dance, hugged you too hard, threw myself into your photo…. It is my slightly exuberant way of saying I love you muchly and am in awe of your talent. Blogging has introduced me to some simply fantastic women and men, and my life is richer for knowing them.
To Dr Ranj – you made my birthday complete!
Thank you and thank you again.
Now it is time to go surfing again. Here is to hoping the waves are calmer next year, the falls are funnier, and maybe I will make it to the Mad Blog Awards 2015 in a slightly more elegant fashion….

Congratulations on a very deserved win, I honestly can’t think of anyone funnier. Still very envious of you getting Dr.Ranj to sing your birthday song… and your legs!! #girlcrush 😉
You look amazing – and what a fabulous night it looks. Wish I’d been there. Congrats on your award. Very well deserved x
Clearly Dr Ranj’s leg is around your body, right? 😉 Glad you had a fab night x
Congratulations on the win! You certainly kept us all entertained on the evening and I’m sure nobody is complaining about that!
Congratulations for the award! Now that is one massive hug you gave Dr Ranj! (squashed him just a tad, didn’t you?).
Oh what a night and you certainly deserved most entertaining both on the night and through your blog. A fantastic round up full of the wit I come to expect on here. Great to see you and have a little time to catch up, your exuberance is infectious and if I were to be lucky enough to be with you again next year I wouldn’t expect or want anything calmer from you.
Massve well done Jane, you throughly deserve to have won. Sad to have missed the night. Mich x
Nah, keep doing it the way you do it, you’re inimitable 😉
And look at those pins!!!!
Many congratulations and very well deserved.
Just remember that surfing doesn’t have to be a sport to take part in on your own- even if your friends end up falling off the board more than you do trying to help keep you up x
Thrilled for you 🙂 Wish I’d been there so see it all 😉
Congratulations!! You look amazing and it was well deserved!!
You were fabulous Jane, so funny. And you look absolutely incredible you foxy lady you. x
I am seething with jealousy that Dr Ranj wrapped himself around you 😉
So well deserved! Always my most entertaining blogger. Congrats on your award lovely x
Were you there? Can’t say as I noticed you all night
That’s a joke
It doesn’t work written down, does it.
One of the bazillion reasons you won Most Entertaining Blog and in didn’t get a look in
Massive congrats
You were fabulous and I came home thinking that you seemed like a new woman, unleashed. Lots of love and congratulations Jane.

So very proud of you. How you’ve surfed the last year has been inspirational and entertaining. You did good. I predict great things for the next year. X
