Marwell Hotel: A Birthday treat

The weekend was full of treats for my birthday pair, the chaos of the snowfall meant the birthday party was delayed by a week but we managed to still pack our bags and escape from home for the weekend.

We always planned to take the children to Marwell Zoo for their birthday and we lucky enough to be offered an opportunity to review Marwell Hotel that sits opposite the wildlife park.

Like me, my children love an overnight stay, where the responsibility of looking after a home disappears and you get to sleep in ironed bed linen and enjoy not making your own bed.  Marwell Hotel did not disappoint within moments of arriving and shaking off the snow from our boots Twin Girl embraced me in a bear hug and declared…

“This is the best birthday ever.”

Twin Boy followed up with, “Mum you are an awesome blogger.”

He really likes the benefits that come with writing review posts.

The hotel is superbly located for easy access to the park but also sits close to Peppa Pig World, the Motor Museum and a Science Centre so makes a great base for a long weekend for families.  Plus with an outdoor play area that we decided to look upon rather than play upon and an indoor pool there is plenty to do to pass the day away.

We spent Saturday creating chaos in the pool, tossing balls at each other, trying to get BB to learn how to swim and watching twin girl grow fins as she swam time and time again to the bottom of the pool to retrieve sunken treasures.  He who helped create them and I emerged more wrinkly than before ready for some good food and decent wine.

We opted to eat in the bar so the children weren’t bound by the rules of formal dining, the grub was excellent and the wine went down a treat banishing the chills of the cold outside.  The children played, utilising the hotels x box but also finding fun in simple games like hide and seek and colouring.  The relaxed feel to the hotel and the family atmosphere meant that we didn’t feel we had to go to bed as soon as dinner was finished, the children were welcome to stay and play.

Our room was cosy, a double bed, a set of bunks and a travel cot, yet we didn’t feel squidged and the bath allowed me some ‘me’ time which always puts a smile on my face.

The beds must have been comfy as we didn’t rise until past eight o clock which is unheard of for my brood.

Before heading to the zoo to complete our birthday treat we managed a scrumptious full breakfast and a second swim in the pool for the children and a lounge in the Jacuzzi for me.  Then we pulled on our wellies and walked the short distance to Marwell Zoo to marvel at tigers playing in the snow.

It was a good weekend.

Many thanks to Marwell Hotel for giving my children a fantastic birthday treat.
