Life post spica: learning with little legs…. ~ Northernmum

Watching BB grow over the last week has taken my breath away, from finally finding the confidence in her legs that three months in spica cast took away from her.  Suddenly there is suddenly no stopping her.

Her personality is shining through, she chats non stop and is cheekier than ever imagined.  If she can find a reason to use her legs she does; it is like she is making up for two years of sitting on her cute little bottom.  Following in her brother’s footsteps, she cannot sit still and thinks nothing is funnier than running away from her mum and dad; except for maybe hiding in cupboards and jumping on her father’s tummy.

She still limps and can’t straighten her left leg, she is not at the same level as her peers; but still ever time I see those little legs hobble towards me a sob threatens to choke me and I cannot believe the overwhelming wave of emotion that floods through my soul.

This makes me happy.

Quite the same fun is being had here at home, our little Pippa runs away from us for any excuse, but particularly a napp time! I’m a lot more protective of her as she runs over pebbles/concrete than I was for her older sister, but I can’t help it, especially after your slide nightmare. We ‘re just noticing that her lim seems to be easing away a bit, I never knew that babies were born without all their bones formed – an ultrasound showed that even after 3 weeks of being allowed to walk again, Phillippas soft tissue was starting to dense up and should in time form the appropriate bone. It’s a mix now of discoveries for them as they explore the world as they should and a waiting game for us with everything crossed that things stay in place. Thanks do your posts, they record the experience perfectly. Very best of luck to you all xxx

Bless her, F is EXACTLY the same. Suddenly turned a massive corner a couple of weeks ago when she eventually started walking and now chats nonstop. Love the trainers by the way, good taste! x

She must feel like the world is her oyster. Hard to imagine the sense of freedom that she must be experiencing after being trapped in her cast. These are lovely photos documenting a very special time.

Hi there! I just wanted to thank you so much for posting about your journey with DDH. My little girl will most likely be going into a Spica cast in the next couple weeks and your blog has been invaluable in helping me deal with the diagnosis and helping me prepare for what is to come.
