The kids have been off school for what feels like a million years; but still, I seem to be deeply unorganised when it comes to getting them ready to go back!
Which completely contrasts the fact that I have been counting down the days…
My slight over worrier teenage daughter has been the opposite though, she has been on my case for weeks to take her out and purchase every thing she needs to set into that much loved education institution.
I had forgotten how expensive school can be when you have three kids and a tight budget.
So an online trip to wilkos was called for, so I could be assured of good quality products, that don’t break the bank. We gleefully took advantage of the 3 for 2 and half price offers on stationary. The savings meant we could also get some “fun” arts and crafts for the weekend, so my youngest is currently painting a lemonade stand in my kitchen.
(She is also painting the floor and walls but I think this may be accidental!)
However she loves her new fluffy unicorn note pad and her now tremendous supply of colouring pens and notepads to decorate!
For school….
With a new approach in schools, the kids have to pretty much bring all their own equipment, which is novel for my 10-year-old. The act of choosing a pencil case took 3 days; and we are still debating between an animal print lunchbox or a slightly more sophisticated plain one – she is going to a year 6 now….
My wallet was further cheered up with the free delivery on orders over £50, although we only managed to spend that much by putting in arts and crafts supplies for those long Autumn weekends.
But, the essentials have been covered!
In case you need a reminder, this is my list of what you will need to successfully throw your child back into school…
Book bag
Lunch box
Water bottle
Pencil case
Pens and pencils
Calculator for the older ones and a geometry set
Plus a nice bottle of Prosecco for mum and dad to share after their first day of school on the longest school holidays known to man!
