Exploring Northumberland This Summer with the Family – 5 Essential Tips to Use

Now that school is done for the summer and the warm, beautiful weather has finally arrived, it’s time to start thinking about the annual family holiday and what you’ll get up to this year. For many families, a “staycation” – a holiday that is home-based – has become the ultimate option, allowing them to stay close to home and explore what their own country has to offer.

As for what destination to choose, Northumberland could be the ideal spot, and we’ve got a selection of trip planning tips to help you out.

Use a Taxi Provider as Your Prime Mode of Transportation

You’ll also need to think about how you plan to get around and explore the region while on holiday. Not everything will be within walking distance, and you don’t want to miss out. A great option is to use a taxi service that can shuttle you to and from the top attractions in Northumberland. Take this taxi provider, ecocabs, as a great option.

Ecocabs offers taxis in Hexham, the North East, and further. You can have ecocabs meet you at the local train station, which is on the Tyne Valley Line, and then transport you and the family to your accommodation and/or all the major attractions in the area. You can continue to use ecocabs for the duration of your trip, which makes getting around simple and seamless.

Choose Accommodation That the Kids Will Enjoy

As any parent knows, keeping the kids entertained while on holiday can be a challenge, but one you’ll need to rise up to and meet if you want things to go smoothly. Choosing accommodation that is family-friendly should be a must, as this will ensure that the whole family is comfortable and happy. This could mean there are special touches for the kids, built-in entertainment, close proximity to shopping, dining, and attractions, and other amenities.

Plan Out Your Itinerary in Advance

Another tip is to take the time to research Northumberland in advance and create a list of the must-see attractions and locations. From there, you can start to build a loose itinerary. Obviously, it’s not always possible to stick to that itinerary, as things will pop up, so flexibility is necessary, but having that list to fall back on will help you to better plan your time and maximise it.

Don’t Over-Book Your Days

While you’re creating that itinerary, you also don’t want to go too far and over-plan. Kids are notorious for getting tired, hungry, bored, and a million other things, so you want to be sure that you don’t push your luck and lose their attention.

Build Some Outdoor Activity into the Holiday

The final tip is to make sure you build some outdoor activity into the holiday. This will help the kids to burn some of that endless energy they seem to have, and get everyone outdoors for some fun. Some of the more popular outdoor activities include biking, water sports and swimming, walking along the footpath network, horse riding, fishing, and plenty more.

Each of these tips will help you to create the ultimate family holiday in Northumberland.
