Fresh Content: 5 Things You Need to Organise When Moving House

Photo by Andrea Piacquadio from Pexels

Moving houses is one of the most stressful steps that you can take. But, in the end, all of the stress will be worth it. With the right preparation and organisation, you’ll be on track to success – it’s just finding suitable techniques and a plan that’s right for you.

Whether it’s your first time moving house or you’ve moved several times before, it’s important to know all of the things you need to organise ahead of time. But if you’re not sure where to start, the anxiety could start to engulf you. To help to guide you through this process, here are 5 things that you must do before the big move:

Arrange a Home Survey

Before you put your home on the market, you should arrange to have a home survey done. Through this any issues, whether they are with damp, mould, etc. can get fixed before potential buyers find them. These types of issues can be very off putting to them, so it’s vital that you get these sorted in advance.

Although a comprehensive home survey might seem expensive (especially if you’re someone that likes to save money where they can), it’s more than worth it in the long run. Why might you ask? Because it will help to increase the asking price and drive up interest in your home – two things that everyone wants when selling their current property.

Consider Hiring a Moving Company

Even though many people like to move their items themselves, sometimes this simply isn’t possible – especially if you have a lot of big furniture that you need to pack. This is where a moving company comes in.

Giving you the peace of mind that your beloved items get to your new house on time and in one piece, you can focus on getting the last bits together and checking the house over to ensure it’s ready for the new owners.

Tell Your Bank and Utility Companies About The Move

Before you move into your new house, you need to make sure that you tell your bank and utility companies about your change of address. This way, they can update their records ahead of time – an essential process that saves you from being charged in the case of financial records being accidentally kept/thrown by the new owners.

Also, by informing the utility companies, you can either put a stop to your electricity/gas or transfer it over to your new home if you’re happy to continue using their services.

Pack As Soon As You Can

Another key piece of advice is to pack all of your items as soon as you can. Although this might feel like a challenge when you have little ones, by doing it asap, it will be far less stressful in the week leading up to the move. By packing all of the items that you don’t need in your daily life, you’ll feel far more prepared on moving day.

Forward Your Mail

In order to receive all of your mail on-time at your new house, it’s vital that you have your mail forwarded. As part of this process, you could even opt for a service (such as that by physicaladdress.com) that allows you to view your mail online, before getting it forwarded to you. Efficient and easy to use, these types of services will make the process far simpler for you.

Final Thoughts

So, there you go! Those are 5 things that you’ll need to organise in advance of moving day. What you decide to do, of course is up to you – but as long as you’re prepared for the process and have created a to-do list, you should feel ready for the move and all it entails.
