Finding the Happy

I am sure everyone who takes the time to read this, is feeling the same.

A mesh of quiet panic, a swell of uncertainty, concern for those we love.

This morning, the sun shone in the garden, the birds were singing, my washing hung out to dry for the first time this year.

It was hard to believe as I stood in solitude that the chaos of the world was actually happening.

That I have gone from hugging friends and family to simply saying hi.

That I am watching pensioners stare at empty aisles.

That the streets seem to be slowing and quietening.

It is scary.

Utterly so.

But one thing I have learnt, is that I can only control what I can control, and however this pandemic pans out, I am going to do my best to be the best I can be.

Living in fear is no way to live, finding ways to spread happy is pretty much my mantra.

As for now, I have food in the cupboards (but not a stupid amount), I have Prosecco in the fridge (had to physically calm myself to not buy stupid amounts), I have hand sanistiser

and loo rolls!

And three kids – who I may be seeing more of soon!

My parents, and a whole host of friends sitting in the same boat as me.

And I have hands so I can help, for those who need it.

I know first hand, anxiety solves nothing, so I am searching out the happy whilst respecting the scary times we are in.

Rather than clearing the shelves, spend that time asking your elderly neighbours how you can help, spend some time sitting in the garden looking at the beautiful world we live in.

Call your parents, just to say hi.

Bake, sing, spend evenings surrounded by your loved ones.

Be grateful for what you have.

Find the happy.

  1. Such true words. Our small cul de sac of 12 houses that have some elderly and disabled residents have shared a sheet of mobile numbers so we can be in contact if needed. Time to do the right thing for everybody
