It’ll have you laughing out loud and at times, under your breath. The musical numbers have been inspired by other popular west end musicals, so if you’re an avid musical fan, you will probably be able to pinpoint a few homages to those musicals. Lin Manuel Miranda first opened Hamilton on Broadway, and it’s one of those musicals that has changed musical theatre forever. Its call for a diverse casting is important at a time where theatre is lacking more diversity within the West End. It was so successful over on Broadway that it wasn’t long until it made its way across the waters to London and it’s made just as big of an impact here too. It’s one that’s not likely to close any time soon, so you have plenty of opportunities to see the show.
Come From Away
9/11 was something that many will remember where they were when it happened, for the rest of their lives. However, not many people know about what happened the many diverted planes that were forced to land in Newfoundland. This small island had to take a huge amount of people in and try to offer them comfort and support in what was a foreign place to them. It’s a really heart-warming production and reminds you that in times of tragedy, we all come together to help one another.
Six The Musical
For a more British story, Six the Musical has made a huge impact on the West End so far after originating from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival back in 2017. The show follows the untold stories of Henry VIII’s six wives. It’s a great all-female production that’s empowering audiences, particularly the young generation. It’s recently opened in Chicago to rave reviews, and it’s hopefully going to go on tour and will further take over the world!
Matilda The Musical
For anyone who’s seen the film or read the book, Matilda is one of those stories by Roald Dahl that is a firm favourite. It’s a story that will likely be passed onto generations to come and even more so now that it’s in a musical version on the west end. It’s been around for a while now, and this production is jam-packed full of energy. Featuring both a child and adult cast, it’s one for the whole family to enjoy.
