When the weight comes back….

I have to admit I thought I was invincible.

That I would never gain weight again, that I had found the secret to eating what I wanted so long as I exercised enough.

I am sure to anyone reading with a grain of common sense, you will know that unless you are working out for hours on end every day, living a diet of mince pies, chocolate cake, and Prossecco can only lead to a wobble when you walk.

I am currently sporting that wobble.

I told myself the increase in the scales was muscle, I convinced myself my face was looking too drawn. Truth be told, muscle doesn’t bounce when you jump and my face was looking just fine.

The damage is not deadly, we are talking about 10lbs of post festive cheer, but for someone who has control issues, it could be seen as the start of a slippery slope.

It is January, propaganda everywhere is insisting I go on a diet.

New Year – New You blasts at me from every street corner, WeightWatchers and Slimming World keep posting coupons through my door.  Groupon is convinced I need Raspberry Ketone supplements and Facebook keeps throwing up posts about how to diet successfully.

I have dieted for years, I am living proof that the diet industry doesn’t really work…

To be fair if it did, why would it be such a successful empire?

The only way I really know to stay fit (even when I am fibbing to myself), it is to eat well, work out, avoid food with ingredients I can’t pronounce and try and steer clear of the Prosecco, *sob*.

The moment I tell myself I am on a diet, it is only a matter of days (or minutes) before I break it, then I feel like crap, eat more, and work out less.

Eating clean, working out, in order to stay fit and well is the only lifestyle that I have adopted that works for me.

So for January I am ignoring the bollox of diet mania, and going back to my Paleo roots.  Eating well, drinking less, and making sure that exercise is part of my routine.

I have committed myself to doing 100 days of exercise, where each day I pledge to move my body in a sporting fashion in some way shape or form.  It is all too easy to claim lack of time when it comes to avoiding exercise so I am ensuring that I don’t fall into that trap by making sure something is achieved daily.

I am on Day Four so far.

Day One was a session with the lovely Jillian Micheals of 30 day shred fame.  The kids got to hear some choice words as I tried to ignore the persistent pounding in my head from my dalliance with Mr Prosecco the night before, whilst lunging, planking, and crunching my abs.

Day Two involved a quick high intensity workout:

50 air squats
20 press ups
2 x 30 sec plank

50 air squat
10 press ups
2 x 30 sec plank

50 air squats
20 press ups
1 x 60 sec planks

Day Three was more about speed, as a long journey back from Cornwall meant I was shattered and in no mood to get into my lycra.  Instead I stayed in my Pj’s and did 10, one minute planks with a 30 second rest in between

Day Four was a bit more intense, with a 90 minute workout at CrossFit which has left every part of me delightfully sore. Tomorrow, walking upstairs may count as a workout….

Wish me luck for the next 96…..

    Good luck Jane, you can do it. I can completely empathise with this post- I have become a bit off over Christmas, well the last couple of months really and i can really feel it in myself. I just need to get back into my running bug again but it’s hard when it’s so cold outside.

    I think I need to follow you and do whatever you tell me. I run, and that’s fine, but planks and press-ups leave me a gibbering wreck. Which means I’m not really fit. Go for it and I’ll try and keep up!

    Love this post, thanks! I’m exactly the same. 10lbs up, started back to my clean eating (I follow Harcombe) and went for a run on Sunday morning (my first for about 8 months!).
    Good luck on your wobble-reducing mission. Don’t totally give up on the prosecco though…How else are us mums supposed to cope?!

    Glad to see I am not the only one struggling to get back on track after Christmas. Good luck with the 100 day challenge! Why not make a post about the different types of exercise you will try? Do you have a regime you have set for the 100days? Thanks for sharing.
