The one where we review Retallack (finally!)

In case you didn’t notice we spent last half term on holiday, guests of the Retallack Resort in Padstow, down on the beautiful Cornish coast.

You can read about our exploits surfing, spinning, or check out our holiday snaps.  Or if you are tempted by miracles, have a look at what BB did in on our holiday.

Or if you want a good old fashioned review, then this is the post to stick with.

Retallack Resort is an idyllic family orientated family destination.  Set among st rolling green hills that tumble onto a pair of geese filled lakes, the sun rises high each morning filling your waking moments with rays of pure gold tapping at the window.

Retallack is based a few miles away from Padstow, a delicious seaside town, with a harbour of magnificent boats, a plethora of dainty stores, and some exceptional fish and chip shops.

On site at Retallack you will find a pool, a small gym, a full range of exercise classes, a park for big and small ones, a nine hole golf course, tennis courts, a flowrider, DVD’s to hire and a kids club.

retallackNot forgetting a restaurant headed up by James Nathan serving reasonably priced and exquisitely tasting  food day and night.

It has everything a family needs for a base to explore and a place to relax.

The Lodge

Home for a week was a stunning four bedroom lodge with three bathrooms, one with a jacuzzi bath, and two lounges. Every effort is put into making the lodges look fabulous.  Our ‘home’ was clean, with tasteful decor, super king sized beds, plus it came with a laundry room so I didn’t come home with bags of washing.

Bliss!

The hot tub outside – we decided to share.

It’s a Twin thing

Retallack is very twin friendly, each lodge has two travel cots, two high chairs, stair gates, and lots of space for multiples to play.  My twins are a little old to need the additional extras but I can remember dragging two of everything on holiday when they were small and know with the benefit of hindsight that we would have loved somewhere as well equipped as Retallack when they were small.

The kids club

I can only heap praise on the individuals who took on my three children and were still smiling at the end of the week.

The kids tried out archery, watched films at nighttime, rode the flowrider, created new t – shirts and simply had a ball.

We explained about my daughters diabetes and were instantly reassured, the whole team read our notes that we take with us when leaving her without us, asked relevant questions and left us feeling that she was in more than capable hands.  It is not always easy leaving a child with diabetes with strangers but I had zero concerns with the team at Retallack.

The kids club is split into different age groups so the activities are appropriate for the child.  Although movie night runs from 7-9 for all ages and is a great way to keep the kids entertain whilst you pop off and sample The Green Room restaurant.

The Green Room

The Green Room offers a fantastic menu and it was a real treat to spend my seventh wedding anniversary, knowing the kids were having fun and eating delicious food.  the chef is James Nathan, winner of the 2008 Materchef.  I sampled every bit of fish I could find on the menu and enjoyed every morsel.  If you are visiting Retallack you have to try the Green Room.  My eight year old son can also highly recommend the sausage and mash!

I could write forever about how much fun we had at Retallack, but my honest advice is to go and see yourself.  It mixes luxury with comfortableness, combines relaxation with the right amount of activity, and leaves you feeling like you have really had a break.

We were lucky enough to be offered a weeks stay at Retallack and sessions at the kids club as a review opportunity, and we received a 20% discount on our meal at The Green Room and a treatment at the Spa.  Full details of costs for stays at Retallack can be seen on their website, but a 7 night stay in February 2015 in a four bedroom lodge with hot tub start at £1099 – prices correct at time of writing.

  1. Lush! We’re off to Retallack during the summer hols this year, and this has made me REALLY excited. Hope the spa’s good… I’m in major need of relaxation.

  2. We are going to book this for our Daughter and the grandchildren, I must say I love it when people post real pictures, its hard to make a decision just off the places websites.

    Thank you
