Twin Boy takes a trip to hospital…: Finally his turn

Twin Boy takes a trip to hospital…: Finally his turn

He barely slept last night, his excitement was all consuming, morning seemed to take forever to arrive but when it did he bounded out of bed with all the energy of a Duracell bunny and was dressed, teeth brushed and hair combed by 7.22am. Today was my son’s day. After almost two years of being dragged to hospital appointments that were not his own, spending half terms in children wards … [Read more...]

Traditions, reflux and a carpet cleaning guide….. ~ Northernmum

New Years Eve brought around a new tradition. We sat by the fire and scribbled our one hope and wish for the upcoming year. Mine was simple... 'No more hospital trips for my children." Twin girl smiled and stroked my hand reassuring, BB leaned in for a cuddle, Twin boy sat up as if he had been shot. "I don't think so," he spat. "It's my turn for a hospital break." Clearly the … [Read more...]

When your son steals your glory…… ~ northernmum

When your son steals your glory…… ~ northernmum

By reading this blog many of you may realise that I aspire to be a writer, to have my words published and my work recognised.  I have the dreams of JK Rowling but without the imagination of a Harry Potter. Still I solider on. I like to think I have the support of my family and that not one of them would compete against my aspiration. Turns out I was wrong..... My own son, my very own … [Read more...]

The tooth fairy is making me bankrupt….

The tooth fairy is making me bankrupt….

I am slowly going bankrupt, I have twin school age children and their sodding teeth are falling out on a weekly basis. Twin girl was the first to lose a body part and I manage to overcome my disgust and play the role of the tooth fairy with flair and dramatic flourish.  The Pinot I had consumed that evening certainly helped my theatrical performance as I silently crept into Twin Girls room … [Read more...]

The Middle Child – why not being disabled is a pretty poor show….

The Middle Child – why not being disabled is a pretty poor show….

It has been a long couple of years; we started with miscarriage in 2008 then bounced into epilepsy in 2010, we then quickly advanced to hip dysplasia in 2011 and we come to the close of 2012 with our new friend, Diabetes. It is enough to make one turn to drink. But have we considered the true victim here?  the one who is suffering the most? The middle child, the one who seems destined … [Read more...]

The splendid world of being six….. ~ Northernmum

The splendid world of being six….. ~ Northernmum

It was unseasonably warm for a mid september morning.  The sun was gently warming up the trees and nature was starting to sing the morning chorus. It was a moment of rareness as I walked to the woods with only one child beside me.  One still rested at home in bed whilst the other one sat glued to Peppa Pig whilst her father tidied up. My son chatted ten to the dozen, relishing the time … [Read more...]

My son is going to jail…. ~ northernmum

My son is going to jail…. ~ northernmum

I feel I should preface this post by saying I love my son. So, I love my son.... However I live in daily fear that when he gets 'big' and has 'a hairy bum like daddy' he is destined for a live of crime.... If you say don't touch he is liable to put his hand through it, if you say no he hears "go for it lad, do it and do it now." He likes to call his approach cheeky, we don't always … [Read more...]

Making being a BOTTOM worth it…..the here and now…. ~ northernmum

Making being a BOTTOM worth it…..the here and now…. ~ northernmum

I'm knackered, motherhood, being a BOTTOM* and trying to do it all can take its toll on occasion. But today as I crawled into the house at just after seven I was reminded why it is worth it.  Descended upon by three wriggling, excruciatingly loud children before I could even pour the wine made me remember that I am loved and love unconditionally in return. I don't want to forget these years … [Read more...]

Football: Shooting from the heart ~ Northernmum

Football: Shooting from the heart ~ Northernmum

Twin boy is becoming a young man in front of me, his hands reside somewhere near his manhood at all times and he is brewing a dislike of all things girlie. His love affair with the great British sport of football is fully underway and I despair daily when I have to put away the shredded remains of the wrappers of his Euro 12 stickers.  I have one grown man firmly stapled to the sofa whilst … [Read more...]

how not to play with your children…

He who helped create them took Twin girl and BB out for a walk yesterday to allow me some peace and quiet to sort out our tea. I tried to focus on peeling and chopping vegetables, but before long I found myself wielding a chipped wooden sword fighting a short shaggy haired pirate who was armed with glow in the dark light sabre. Abandoning the carrots I pivoted on my heels and jabbed the air … [Read more...]
