7 Proven Ways to Feel Younger Than Your Age

Ageing is inevitable and its signs can be a little bit annoying to think about. Who wouldn’t want to look and always feel young? While the ageing clock keeps ticking, there are various ways to reverse your biological ageing clock and look younger than your actual age. Although your diet and lifestyle during earlier years are vital factors to the quality of life in later years, studies have shown that it is possible for older adults to feel younger with the right sense of control in their daily activities. Check these seven proven ways to help you feel younger.

Discover your purpose
Like Dr. Dawn Carr said, “feeling younger is about having a sense of relevance in the world.” Finding your purpose is a challenge for everyone. It is more of waking up every morning feeling excited about an objective with a strong sense of willingness to achieve it. Even when retired, you can challenge yourself by taking a role in caring for the family or helping others in productive ways like volunteering. While finding purpose seems to be reserved for those in more youthful days, researchers have found a strong relationship between having a life’s purpose in adulthood and better health and physical wellbeing.

Be active
Countless studies recommend an active lifestyle as a way to achieve youthful and robust adulthood. There is an endless list of activities you can engage in to leave you looking and feeling younger than your actual age. Aerobics, squats, sit-ups, cycling, and lightweight training can help boost your physical health and bone density. If riding a bicycle proves a little bit too much, you can take frequent walks. Fueling your body regularly with exercise will keep you in shape to do anything physically, which will leave you feeling younger.

Be positive
It is natural to grow accustomed to reading or watching the news on TV as entertainment. A recent study suggests that for people aged 65 years and above,TV remains the most-used platform among UK adults for information. While it is beneficial to keep abreast of recent happenings, you should choose your news sources carefully. Choosing news and other information outlets that are full of negativity can affect how you feel about life. Reading positive news and continuously feeding yourself with things that interest you eases your stress and gives you a more positive view of life- making you feel like your younger care-free self.

Socialise with younger people
You will always learn something new when you surround yourself with younger people. Their request for your counsel and guidance helps you learn more about the world around them. If it’s trouble finding someone to engage with, walk into your local café or coffee shop and initiate a conversation. Surrounding yourself with more youthful people will no doubt draw out the best in you.

Feel confident in your skin
One of the attributes of feeling young is to feel comfortable in your skin. If you’re having a hard time dealing with your ageing appearances, undergoing cosmetic surgery is another approach you could take. For example, if you are dealing with hair loss or thinning, you should consult a hair transplant clinic to help you regain your hair for a more youthful appearance. Other cosmetic procedures like Botox have recently seen an increase in demand as it is a safer and quicker way to achieve your younger appearance. There are a variety of procedures available you can choose from.

Get a good sunblock
Investing in a good sunscreen is an excellent way to look and feel younger. The most extreme harm caused to the skin is as a result of direct exposure to the sun. This exposure culminates in wrinkles and premature sagging of the skin, leading you to look much older. Therefore, it is essential to get adequate protection to limit exposure and slow down the process. If possible, get a decent sunscreen and fix it with accessories like scarfs, caps, or shades to leave you dripping with fashion. Meanwhile, the NHS UK has advised using a sunscreen with an SPF 30 or more for maximum protection.

Change your mindset
Are you familiar with the famous phrase “you’re as old as you think”? A recent study proposed that older people who claimed to feel more youthful had younger minds than their real age. Though this could be neurologically better, the research further suggested it may have a younger attitude. Shifting from an old to a more youthful mindset will help you stay mentally and physically active while safeguarding your cognitive functioning, researchers say.
