My twelve year olds are so hard to buy for at Christmas.
I am not a huge fan of buying for buying sakes. Or getting tat to fill a stocking.
So, I am always on the look out for decent gift ideas, that dare I say it, have a hint of practicality to them on occasion.
Making Christmas a great time, that doesn’t incur a load of wasted cash.
This year, the twins will be finding a laptop under the tree. One computer between three of us doesn’t really cut it anymore as they age, the homework piles up.
However, as it will be transported between home and school, I want to ensure it will be protected.
Which is where my first gift idea comes into play….
Thule Lithos Backpack 20L
Perfect for a style concious teen to transport their laptop safely.
RRP of £70, it is a decent investment but fantastic quality. The Thule Lithos Backpack 20L is a modern backpack that looks cool. The backpack is available in black, dark burgundy and carbon blue and it is comfortable to carry with padded back panel and shoulder straps.
Perfect for keeping tech in tip top condition.
Words of Wisdom
Want to impart some words of wisdom for the kids?
Then you need to compile an AWESOME book of Wise(ist) words. A personal gift that even the coolest of kids will love. And who knows, some of the epic quotes may hit home…
This book is so much fun, to both make and receive. You can make the book from Santa, or confess it is really parental words….
I’d go with Santa!
The words on the page range from gentle reminders to put down the phone and go outside, through to valuable bits of advice such as Don’t Eat Yellow Snow.
At £19.95 – it is a great stocking filler gift!
Wise up with a wallet
I am always trying to get my kids to be more responsible with their cash, so investing in a decent wallet for them will hopefully help them feel more grown up…
Whitby & Co have a beautiful range of Zippo wallets, perfect for cruising into adult hood with.
Experiences to remember
Why spend money on giving presents that may realistically end up gathering dust at the bottom of drawer. Experience gifts are so much more fun and usable as gifts.
Learning to drive before it is even legally allowed is a wicked idea for a gift.
Young Driver lessons are a fabulous present for that tough to buy for teens. It is an ongoing process so they can increase their skill with each lesson.
We worked with Young Drivers last year, the kids still talk about it – and it is top of their Christmas lift.
Guaranteed to not be left in the drawer come New Year.
Find out more about YOUNG DRIVER™ on their website.
Then you need to get on board with the experience gifts…
Total Ninja based in Stoke is an amazing afternoon for the kids, and gift vouchers are available…
What a better way to spread festive cheer than to exhaust the family by getting them to reenact scenes from the great TV show.
And grown ups can go too – in case you were thinking of joining them for some extra fun!
Prices start from £10, full details online.
The gift of music… (or silence)
I feel terribly out of touch when my kids put their music on.
It is just so loud!
And often I don’t care for the language…
However Santa has a solution.
Big drivers, soft ear cushions, and precision sound; eliminate all restrictions and experience freedom with the House of Marley Positive Vibration 2 Wireless on-ear Bluetooth headphones.
Available in a range of vibrant colours, a 12-hour wireless playtime, 40mm dynamic driver and aluminium ear cups – the sleek design is the ideal companion for travelling.
The headphones also include a removable cable with a mic and 1-button remote, so you can continue to listen plugged in should you wish, and features on-board controls and microphone to control your music and take calls at convenience.
When your tween has them on – you can’t hear a thing! The gift of music for them and silence for us parents.
My daughter has recently discovered Friends. She has eaten the whole box set in 3 months – she has no idea of the time I spent anguishing between series.
So I know there will be squeals of delight when she unwraps these super Friends PJ’s on Christmas morning, I may even let her have a sneak peak on Christmas Eve!
