No more Ice Skating: The best review ever!

No more Ice Skating: The best review ever!

In my head I am a fanatically clean and tidy individual, I am also a size eight (in my head) so we can draw from that, that my head is not always factually correct.  I believe in the mantra ‘tidy space, tidy mind’ so if you were lucky enough to visit my house for a nice cup of Yorkshire tea you would be greeted by a relatively tidy home but if I am honest the cupboards would be creaking under the weight of ‘shoved in’ items and I would have been manically spraying pledge around the place minutes before your arrival.

I am all about cleaning quickly.

Our new home is bigger than our old home and subsequently requires more cleaning.  Since I drastically reduced my hours at work to spend more time with the children I find myself with more time to dirty the home than to clean it.  The wooden floors have become dangerously perilous as the spraying of pledge has made them into a mini ice rink and underneath the shine I can detect a need to clean.

My home is a 90% wooden floors; that is a lot of time spent on my knees scrubbing with a cloth, and time is something that I don’t seem to have an excess of.  I used to have a ‘normal’ mop but then I realised it was merely shoving the filth around rather than removing it so I returned to Pledge spraying and ice skating on a daily basis.

The one day whilst sitting at home fretting about the state of my wooden floors my email gave a cheery ping and in popped an offer to review the Black & Decker steam mop.  I don’t mind telling you that I almost cried with joy.  I actually squeaked and jumped a little (2 cm) in the air from my seat.  I eagerly texted he who helped created them who sent a speedy smiley face back in return and then we waited for the new mop’s arrival.

Every day I peered through the window studiously ignoring the floor on which I stood that was begging to be cleansed and then one day, shortly after the email a large box appeared on my door step.  It was here, the time for cleanliness had arrived.

As I unpacked the new mop with shaking hands I heard the floors start to sing in excitement.  I quickly popped it together and filled it with water and then I was off.  Singing like Mary Poppins I cooed in delight as the mop cruised over the floors wiping out dirt and bacteria beneath it.  Rather than merely shifting it into the corner like it’s disrespectful spongehead cousin this beautiful elegant white lady collected the dirt and when it had eaten so much it was full I simply removed the white cloth and replaced it with the next and started again.

I worried because of the rectangular shape of the head that the mop would struggle in tight corners or under sofas that I didn’t have the energy to move; but I was a fool, the spinning head meant that my new best friend could reach into places that had never even seen a cloth before.

It took about thirty minutes to clean the whole of my three bedroom bungalow home, in which I tackled wood, laminate, and vinyl and used a different control on each.  My floors shone like someone had spent hours scrubbing beeswax into them.  Happiness was mine.

The children came home and removed their shoes, almost scared to tread on the gleaming surfaces.  Twin boy looked at me with fear in his eyes and said ‘Pledge?’ I took him by the hand and murmured, ‘no honey, clean.’ Together we skipped joyously through the house loving the sensation of not slipping on pledge ice.

It is like the mop has become part of the family!

I cannot recommend this beauty enough, it is a huge time and face saver.  Before the mop moved in my heart would lurch when people came to visit wearing white socks because I knew when they removed them in the evening they would be soiled with black.

No more – my steam mop means visitors leave with socks the same colour as when they arrived.

Happy days.

I have this mop although I’m jealous that yours is the deluxe version! Particularly good for cleaning around the toilet where the males have left their trails!

You really really like it don’t you – I can tell from your happy face and also the amount you have written on a mop . It’s a positively evangelical.
I was almost convinced I needed one and then remembered the house is almost completely carpeted.

I could do with one of these! I’m of the same opinion as you – that traditional mops simply spread the dirt around, rather than cleaning – so I clean my kitchen and bathroom floors by hand using spray cleaner and a cloth. It’s a pain of a job, so it’s one I often put off – this device sounds like it would be a lifesaver in my house! You certainly seem happy with it – any gadget that makes a smile like that appear when cleaning, must be worth having!

    Best wishes

you? on hands and knees? Shhhhhh dont tell anyone but I have never mopped my kitchen floor – ever since I have lived in my current house (nearly 5 years). The poor floor has only ever seen a flash wipe and in desperate times a baby wipe -leaving it super skiddy!

I think it would be ok, you would need to invest in a couple of extra cloths

My brother bought my Mum a steam mop for Christmas and she pronounced it the best gift she had ever received! So much for all those boots of agonising over presents through the years. Steam mops are obviously the way to go. I can’t say I would be so thrilled to receive it as a gift, useful though we would find it.

I bought one of these – the exact same model that you have – and it arrived today. I have spent the last twenty minutes carefully reading and re-reading the instructions because the mop just doesn’t work. When I press the on/off button nothing happens: the water reservoir doesn’t light up red like it should and then turn blue. No steam comes out. I am very disappointed. Is your mop still working? Did you have any of these problems when you first got it?

sorry no, ours worked fine and still does – have you taken it back?

        Thanks for your reply.
I got it online from Amazon. I’ll phone Black & Decker on Monday – they are closed at the weekend – and see what they say.

By eating the right foods and exercising regularly,
you can be the person you want to see in your mirror.
However, the rid of thhis fruit is widely used for cooking purposes within India.
In the same note, it doesn’t just require you to go to the gym.

Such a sweet post! I also need to have a steam mop like this because I have hardwood floor and I want to use a mop that works on water to avoid using any chemical cleaners. Thank you for sharing the post!
