Fab Maternity Clothes from Vertbaudet ~ Northernmum

I have five years between pregnancies and in that time maternity clothes seem to evole rapidly.  With the twins I mainly seem to hide my bump in baggy t shirts and towards the end of the pregnancy mainly tents.  With BB I enjoyed a little more style and glamour thanks to companies like Vertbaudet.  It was in my final pregnancy that I realised when you’re pregnant and dressing for two or three, choosing your maternity clothes doesn’t mean you have to completely change your personal style.

This is some advice from the good folks at Vertbaudet with a funky little interactive guide!

1st Trimester

Aim for clothes that have some movement in them, you won’t be showing much yet, but you will be feeling pregnant and may want to wear clothes that have a comfortable fit to accommodate your changing body and growing bump.

You should invest in some soft and stylish basic maternity wear that can be worn in early pregnancy.

2nd Trimester

You may need to start looking at maternity style clothing. Every mum to-be wants to feel chic, feminine and on-trend. Whether you prefer tailored pieces to casual wear, you should be able to find a variety of designs to suit your shape, size and taste.
Some tips when choosing your pregnancy wardrobe.

  • Being comfortable is key! Choose lightweight and soft fabrics. For daytime elegance team leggings with a tunic top or maternity jeans with staple items such as a vest and cardigan for added comfort.
  • Long maxi dresses are perfect for any season and the added stretch will grow with your bump. Choose your perfect dress in a strong block colour to take you right through your pregnancy.
  • Leggings are a must have for mums-to-be as they provide extra stretch and will grow with your bump. What’s more they can be dressed up or down for any occasion.
  • Wrap tops work beautifully worn with jeans or trousers. Timeless and very versatile- wear it tied above your bump when pregnant, wear it open, use it to disguise a postnatal tum or to help with breastfeeding. Also great for a light cover-up when you’re pregnant (most women find they get warmer during pregnancy and don’t need heavy cardigans).
  • All these are smart investment pieces which can form the core of a wardrobe which lasts through pregnancy and beyond.
  • Maternity jeans are the ultimate casual maternity clothes staple and are perfect for around the house or stepping out for an errand. You’ll also enjoy the soft cotton against your skin.
  •

3rd Trimester and postnatal

If you invest wisely in some classic basic clothes they should last you into your 3rd trimester and choosing clothes that have a stretchy and comfortable style means you will be able to wear them after the birth.
