We were invited this weekend to watch Johnny English:Reborn before it becomes available on DVD on the 13th of February.
If I am honest I went with pretty low expectations I am not a huge fan of slapstick, I hadn’t seen the first and I am not a Mr Bean fan, however I thought it would tickle Twin Boy and Twin Girl’s fancy so we bundled onto the train, see yesterday’s horror story, and went up to the big smoke to watch Rowan and his friends.
Pleasantly surpirsed was an understatement, I actually caught myself laughing out loud on numerous occasions, both at the film and at my children’s reactions to it. The film, although complicated for six year olds to follow, captures the essence of a small persons humour. A good bit of willy kicking at the start guaranteed that Twin Boy would spend most of the movie gripping his side snorting with giggles. Twin girl failed to follow the plot but it was totally irrelevant as she was entralled by the special effects, the assasin turned cleaner turned golfer and of course she couldn’t help but explode with chuckles as Johnney English got walloped in his nether regions.
If you havn’t seen it here is a taster of what it is about;
Johnny English, played by Rowan Atkinson, must stop a group of international assassins before they eliminate a world leader and cause global chaos. In the years since MI-7′s top spy vanished off the grid, he has been honing his unique skills in a remote region of Asia. But when his agency superiors learn of an attempt against the Chinese premier’s life, they must hunt down the highly unorthodox agent. With one shot at redemption, Johnny English must employ the latest in hi-tech gadgets to unravel a web of conspiracy that runs throughout the KGB, CIA and even MI-7. With mere days until a heads of state conference, one man must use every trick in his playbook to protect us all.
So yes, if you have people under 8 watching with you I wouldn’t expect them to completly follow the plot, however the action, the comedy and the stunts are more than enough to keep the watcher fully entertained.
It is proof enough that we throughly enjoyed the movie as I have promised the children we can watch the first one this weekend, however as it is a children’s film please read on to see what the kids actually thought of it….
Twin Boy’s review (transcribed by me)
Really, mummy?
Really, shall I talk now?
Mummy, what does transcibed mean?
Ok, mummy took us to see Johnny English, it was super because at the start where they are having a fight he shoots him in the peanuts, that was awesome. Johney English is great. At the end he had an umbrella and he shot it into the air and it exploded. The old lady who cleans and shoots is pretty cool. I think other people should go and see it, in London if they can.
Twin girl (transcribed by me)
I loved Johnny English, espeacily when he was dead and jumping up and down in the sack and it was very funny when he put ladies lipstick on. I really want to see Johnny English one, can we mummy? I’ll be good….

In exchange for this review we were invited to watch Johnny English in the big smoke and also muched our way through some delicious bacon rolls. The views remain completly mine and the twins.

I watched the first one quite recently with the kids actually, and they really loved it!! And, I do admit to liking a bit of slapstick!!
went to get it from the video shop last night and they didnt have it!
Oh no!!! The kids have it from years ago, I think they must have been given it as a present. I couldn’t believe we’d never watched it together!!! (And the little on hadn’t watched it at all). Maybe you can get it from one of those online rental places?
now that requires being organised!
